Upholstery for furniture sets & sofas - what you should know
Whether it's a leather sofa or a fabric sofa - there are two basic types of upholstery for upholstered furniture: casual and firm upholstery. Both variants offer different seating sensations.
Casual upholstery - soft, comfortable, relaxed: With casual upholstery, you sink noticeably into the seat. The cover lies loosely over the upholstery and is not firmly tensioned - this ensures a particularly soft and relaxed sitting experience. Small creases are typical, which develop over time due to the relaxed processing and use - and are part of the look of this type of upholstery.
Firm upholstery - dimensionally stable, firmer: With firm upholstery, the cover is pulled tightly over the upholstery and joined together. They sit a little more firmly, sink in only slightly and the sofa appears more compact and structured overall. The firm tensioning of the cover material reduces creasing - but the fabric can still stretch slightly with regular use.
Our tip: The cover stretches with increasing use - regardless of the type of upholstery. This results in creases, especially in frequently used areas. Change your favorite seat regularly to ensure even seating comfort and a uniform crease pattern. If the set becomes worn or loses its shape over time, our professionals can help with professional reupholstery and repairs - right in your home.
