Leather sofas - properties & correct cleaning and care
Leather is a popular natural product for sofas, couches, etc. It looks elegant, is durable - but also requires care. Important: The cleaning and care requirements vary considerably depending on the type of leather.
Smooth leather - easy to care for & hard-wearing: Smooth leather is particularly hard-wearing, water-repellent and stain-resistant thanks to an opaque layer of color and a type of clear varnish. The applied layers protect against abrasion and discoloration. It stands up well to everyday use and is ideal for families with children and pets. Regular care with the right cleaning and care products can prevent soiling and wear. Cleaning by professionals is only necessary in the event of heavy soiling.
Natural aniline leather - elegant but sensitive: This particularly soft and open leather does not have any protective layers of color. It is breathable, but also very sensitive to dirt, grease and sunlight. Special care is required in everyday use. The leather should be protected from direct sunlight. Cleaning should only be carried out by professionals.
Lightly pigmented semi-aniline leather - a good middle ground: Semi-aniline leather is also soft and of high quality, but has been lightly dyed with color pigments. The additional color coating makes it more robust than natural aniline leather, but nowhere near as strong as smooth leather. It is recommended to have the leather cleaned by a professional.
